30. 18/V/24: human saturation limit
IT SOUNDS MORONIC //
YOU LOCK YOURSELF BEHIND SIX SLABS OF PLYWOOD //
YOU FEEL SO SAFE DON'T YOU? //
a random string of words that came to my head last night
anyway, here's what I came to talk about
I watched a film today, and at the start, there was a scene where a family of five and the two parents, sitting on a riverside with the kids playing in the water
the place was in the middle of a forest, with the noise of birds present almost obnoxiously loud
and that scene made me think of how, with time, all those places will disappear
you can call me pessimistic, but if you stop to think about it you know it'll be true
humans will keep reproducing, cities will keep expanding, and forests will be chopped down for wood, then used for farming, and eventually built over
and with that, I kept thinking. there are limited resources on this planet. there is limited land on this planet. yet humans seem to continue to reproduce and expand
that doesn't sound right! surely there has to be a point where no more humans can stay on the face of the earth
because yeah, we could keep reproducing, but there's no way those newborns could actually live a proper life
clothes and shelter wouldn't be that big of an issue because we could always use what our previous generation left behind
but just food. JUST FOOD. FOOD. FOOD- okay that's enough you get my point
BEHOLD! the HUMAN SATURATION LIMIT!
a saturation limit is the maximum value that a system can handle, the system cannot grow beyond that value
so for humans, the human saturation limit is the maximum amount of humans that the earth could handle
I have absolutely no idea how that would even be calculated, but I do KNOW that it's a thing!
and I know for a fact that humans aren't ready to accept that. and that's okay!
we want to continue to strive, and we will keep reproducing, and doing all those things I just said, and that's okay! those words I just said, humanity will learn them the hard way, experiencing them by itself
after all, look at what happens in most times that this very topic is brought up in films and stuff
the first of these that comes to my mind is pyrocynical's video on the tv series Utopia (link)
I know the link leads to a specific moment in the video, in order to highlight my argument, but in reality you should watch the entire video because it's SO worth it
anyway uhhh
I ended up watching some of the video itself and lost my train of thought
I guess I should just say I sympathize with what the man is saying
and trust me, I don't even want humanity to perdure
I believe that humans do waaayyy more harm to the planet than what we could ever fix
just think of all the nice things that would happen if humanity stopped existing! flora and fauna would reflourish almost instantly without anthropic intervention
I know that no extinguished species would return into existence, but much fewer ones would be endangered
and the ones that would go extinguished? well at least those would be thanks to natural selection, not to choking on plastic or the rainforest they live in being massacred to get wood and farmland
and I proooomiiiiiise that I don't wanna kill anybody. we're already here in this world, so we might as well live and enjoy our lives!
but still, make sure not to copulate, kids! the planet will thank you for it, and I will be proud of you
